Philadelphia (GAP) Senior Four-Man Team
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (July 21, 2005) -– A quartet of leading area senior golfers from four different clubs combined for 11 birdies Thursday to fire an 8-under-par 134 (64-70) to win the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s 16th Senior Four-Man Team title at Greenacres CC (par 71, 6,111 yards) in a two best balls of four format.

The victors were Daniel Burton of Bent Creek CC, Michael Rose of Ashbourne CC, Carl Everett of Merion GC, and Neil McDermott of Llanerch CC. Rose led the group with five birdies, including three out of four holes on Nos. 13 through 16.

They needed them, as they survived two bogeys on the 366-yard, par 4 No. 11, and won by three strokes over another group of key senior golfers in a field of 160 players.

Charlie McClaskey of Wyncote GC, Andy Thompson of Overbrook GC, Terry Sawyer of Yardley CC, and Doug Fraser of Greate Bay GC posted a 5-under 138 (66-72), carding nine birdies. McClaskey had four.

It was a battle of low handicap players. The combined handicaps of the Burton team totaled 11. The McClaskey team totaled six. Everett, McDermott and Rose were part of the winning team in 2003. McClaskey and Sawyer were on he winning team in 2004.

The foursome of Bob Cerulli, Blaine McCreary, Rich Bernat and Brendan Kearney of Sandy Run CC took low net honors with a 17-under-par 125.

Two teams, the Doylestown CC quartet of Herbert Gordon, John Doyle III, George Becker, Jr., and Alan Bernabei, and the Sandy Run foursome of Michael and Charles Loughery, Joseph Herzog and John DePaul, tied for second with 128.

ABOUT THE Philadelphia Senior Four-Man Team

Format: 18-hole gross and net stroke play. Two best gross scores and two best net scores (90% of individual handicap) of the four are the score for each hole.

Eligibility: Open to GAP Member Club golfers with a USGA Handicap Index of 18.0 or lower and who are 55 years of age and over. Partners need not be members of the same club.
