Colorado (CGA) Junior Stroke Play Championship
DENVER, CO (July 20, 2005) -- Despite playing in temperatures over 100 degrees at Aurora Hills Golf Course, Riley Andrews of The Links GC kept his cool, firing a final round 65 for a total of 200 (16 under par) to win the CGA Junior Stroke Play Championship. Afterwards, Andrews claimed, “This is (my) biggest win by far since winning the 2004 CHSAA 5A State Championship. I made some changes and worked hard in the off-season – taking two steps back – and now I feel moving forward again.” Andrews will be a senior this fall at ThunderRidge High School.

Andrews began the day one stroke behind current CGA State Public Links champion, Zen Brown of Indian Tree GC, but had caught Brown at the turn. Andrews’ birdie on #10 put him in the lead, and he never looked back eventually winning by four strokes. Brown finished the final round with a 70 giving him a total of 204 to earn second place. Steve Ziegler of The Ranch CC shot 69 in the final round to finish in third place at 205. Luke Symons of Valley CC shot the second lowest score of the day, a five-under 67, to move into fourth place at 206. 2005 CGA Junior Match Play finalist Gunner Wiebe of Cherry Hills CC turned in a final round score of 70 to finish in fifth place at 208.
