PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (August 13, 2009) -- Casey Boyns has defeated Matt Williams, 5 and 4, in the first match of semifinal play at Spyglass Hill, while George Gandranata defeated Randy Haag, 1-up, in sudden-death.

Haag, after going 3-down after eleven holes, birdied Nos. 12, 14, and 15 to square the match with Gandranata and swing the momentum into his direction. The two players matched scores on the next three holes, setting up the sudden-death playoff. On the difficult, 595 yard, par-5 first hole at Spyglass, it was a reversal of fortune for Gandranata in sudden-death, as his bogey in the morning vs. Haag's par turned into a match-winning par vs. Haag's bogey.
