Nebraska Match Play: Hurley over Sajevic
2009 Nebraska Match Play champion
BELLEVUE, NE (June 28, 2009)--O'Neill's John Hurley won his second match play title Sunday defeating Andy Sajevic of Fremont 7 and 6 in the tournament's 36-hole final at Willow Lakes Golf Club. Hurley never trailed taking holes 2, 4, 6 and 8 before Sajevic won the 10th hole with par. It was the last hole he'd win in the morning session as Hurley finished the first 18 holes 5 up.
The momentum continued for Hurley in the afternoon round as he built his lead to 8 holes at the turn before Sajevic again claimed the 10th hole trimming the lead to 7. The pair halved the par 3 11th hole with pars and the 12th hole with eagle 3's ending the match 7 and 6.
Hurley has two years of eligibility remaining at Texas A&M University where his team won the national championship in May. He previously won the match play championship in 2007.
