LAKEWOOD, WA (June 25, 2009)--18-year old Pamela Burneski of Surrey, B.C. and a member of Homestead Farms Golf Resort claimed her second WSGA Championship this year after a final round of 7-over par 79, giving her a three stroke victory and a 54-hole total of 12-over par 228. Burneski made bogey on her first five holes today but then settled down with three pars and a birdie to finish the front nine. On the back nine Burneski made bogeys on holes 10, 12, and 14 but made pars on the rest including two sand saves and a great up and down from the rough in her final four holes.
Finishing tied for Runner-up were Lelsie Folsom of Seattle, Wash. who finished with a round of 4-over par 76 for a 15-over par 231 and first round leader, Cathy Kim of Bellevue, Wash. who carded a final round of 7-over par 79.
In the Senior Amateur, Yasue Alkins of Lacey, Wash. fired the low round of the day for a 5-over par 76 and her first WSGA Senior Amateur Championship. Her solid round today gave her a three day total of 13-over par 229 and a two stroke victory over Ginny Burkey of Fircrest, Wash. who finished with a 7-over par 79 today and a 54-hole total of 15-over par 231. Alkins, Burkey and Murdoch battled back and forth all round long but the momentum finally turned after Alkins chipped in for a birdie on the difficult par-4 15th hole. She followed that up with two solid pars and a safe bogey at the par-4 finishing hole to claim the title.
The championship called for 54-holes of gross and net stroke play in the Amateur and Senior Amateur divisions.
