Jade Scott wins Southern Junior
GREENSBORO , GA (June 18, 2009) – Overnight leader Jade Scott of Daingerfield, TX, set the tone for his final round of the 37th Southern Junior Golf Championship on Thursday with a birdie-eagle start. His cushion ranged from one to four shots the rest of the day and he finished with a final round 71 and 210 total, for a three-shot victory at Reynolds Landing Golf Club in the featured 15-18 age group.

He sealed the win with a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-5 16th. “I knew if I made that putt, I would have it. Winning a tournament of this caliber is just surreal,” said the 2008 Texas Junior champ. “I let everyone back in with a double at eight. After that, I was just trying to avoid another big number.” By winning, Scott earned a spot in the 103rd Southern Amateur next month in Memphis .

Tied for second at 213 were Scott’s playing partners, Will Pearson of Memphis and Chun Hung Chan of Hong Kong .

Jack Maguire of St. Petersburg, FL, ran away with the 13-14 age division, closing with a 1-under 71, 213 for a whopping 14-shot triumph.

Georgia , led by Brian Carter of Augusta and Jordan Janico of Duluth , won the State Team Title, which goes to the state with the best total score for four players from any state over the first two rounds. The low four Georgians totaled 575, one ahead of Texas .
