PNGA Women's Amateur: Leon defeats Mackenzie, 2&1
Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club, Federal Way, Wash. (July 15, 2005) –Taylor Leon of Dallas, Texas defeated Paige Mackenzie of Yakima, Wash. 2 up with 1 to play to win the 104th PNGA Women’s Amateur Championship. Leon sank a 6 foot par putt on hole 17 to close out the match. Mackenzie had won the sixteenth by making an 8 foot birdie putt, but failed to get up and down for par on the par 3 17th.

Leon seemed to dominate every opponent she played this week, but Mackenzie gave her the best battle. The match spent most of its time bouncing back and forth, but Leon showed great patience and never gave in. Even after missing a 4 foot putt to lose the first hole, she stayed solid and put the pressure on Mackenzie for much of the match. With the talent both players possess, it’s not a surprise that it took 35 holes to crown a champion.
