WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 19, 2009) -- Danny Germaine of Palm Beach Gardens birdied four of the last six holes after a mid-round swing adjustment Sunday and won the 10th annual Palm Beach International at the President Country Club.

After a five under par 66 on the Eagle course Saturday, Germaine was seven over par after making his third double bogey of the day at the par-4 12th Sunday and trailed Tim Stieren, the early co-leader, by seven points in the Stableford scoring format. “I didn’t hit the ball well at all the first 12 holes,” Germaine said, “but then I realized I was sliding forward on my swing. I tried to concentrate on staying back and it worked out well the rest of the way,” with birdies at Nos. 13, 14, 17 and 18.

Finishing with 86 points to Stieren’s 85, it was the fifth Palm Beach County Golf Association victory for Germaine, 30, manager of an Edwin Watts golf store in Wellington, three of which came in 2007 when he earned Player of the Year honors.

Germaine’s rally was bolstered by the struggling Stieren, who bogeyed the 12th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes before finishing with birdie at 18. He made two birdies and a bogey on the front for a gross score of 73 and 37 points.

Bob Stieren, Tim’s father, won the net point quota division with plus-1, scoring a minus-3 on Sunday. Together, the Stierens have won the PBCGA Parent-Child tournament twice, in 2002 and 2006.

The second event of the PBCGA’s 34th season drew 65 starters in two divisions. Next on the schedule is the Arrigo Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep Four-Ball May 1-3 at Bear Lakes CC. For membership information and tournament entry, go to www.pbcga.org.
