Western Intercollegiate: Oregon Ducks Win it
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (March 31, 2009) - Diego Velasquez of Oregon State took individual medalist honors at 63rd annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
Velasquez posted even par 210 over three rounds at the classic Alister Mackenzie golf course to finish three strokes ahead of Jack Newman of Michigan State and Derek Tolan of Colorado.
Oregon won the team event with an 865 total. Colorado and Michigan State tied for second at 873 and Michigan State was solo fourth at 874.
LOCAL TEAM RESULTS:
Cal [885] took fifth, tournament host San Jose State [913] was 12th, a stroke lower than St. Mary's, and Santa Clara [957] was 17th.

Ryan Blackburn of Mercer University and Nick Brown of San Jose State (playing as an individual) both made hole-in-ones on the par 3, 141-yard, 15th hole in the third round.
* Blackburn hit a knockdown 8-iron six feet beyond the pin and watched the ball spin back to the middle of the cup.
* Brown lofted a high pitching wedge 10 feet beyond the pin and spun the ball back into hole. Three holes-in-one have occurred. Michigan State's Graham Baillargeon had a hole-in-one on the 8th hole in round two.
