PENSACOLA, Fla. (March 26, 2009) – Heavy overnight rain which made the course unplayable combined with tornado warnings Thursday morning to force cancellation of the final round of the inaugural Society of Seniors Spring Classic at Pensacola Country Club.
As a result, the second round leaders were awarded the titles – Ron Carter of Monticello, Ind., senior division, 55-64 years of age, and Rich Anderson of Bloomington, Minn., super seniors, 65-and-older. Carter shot 73-70—143. Anderson had 78-68—146.
The new Spring Classic was the first of seven tournaments to be staged this year by the Society of Seniors, an international organization of senior amateur golfers 55 and older with handicaps of three or less. There are 825 members with 94 entered here.
