HOUSTON, Texas (Feb. 17, 2009) -- Sitting in second place when the day began, the Pacific golf team to shoot an even par, 288, in round three to take home the Rice Intercollegiate championship. The tournament win was the first of the season for the Tigers.

Pacific was led by sophomore Patrick Kucich who shot a 2-under, 70, on the day to complete the tournament in a tie for third place overall at even-par 216.

University of San Francisco freshman Ji Hwan Park shot an even-par 72 in the final round of the Ninth Annual Rice Intercollegiate, securing the first individual title of his career at 6-under 210 (70, 68, 72). Park helped the Dons to a seventh place finish in a strong 15 team tournament field at the Westwood Golf Club.

Park's triumph made history as the Fullerton native becomes the first player in the history of the event to finish under par. In addition, Park becomes the second Don to capture an individual title this season, joining junior Domingo Jojola who won the 2008 Saint Mary's Tournament at Poppy Hills.

"It was a quality win," USF head coach Gary Nelson said. "He played with tremendous consistency throughout the tournament and made some clutch putts."

Playing in its second event of the 2009 Spring season, USF men's golf posted a seventh place finish at 888.
