Adams Golf Senior: Zylstra gets redemption
TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2008) -- A week after falling apart at the Kingsway Invitational, Michigan's Bill Zylstra rebounded in grand fashion, topping Mike Bell of Indiana to win the Adams Golf Senior Championship by two strokes.
Zylstra, who led by 11 strokes with 16 to play last week at the Kingsway before falling, played his best golf in the final round at Emerald Greens in Tampa, carding an even-par 72, which was the second best round of the tourney.
He finished at 9-over-par 225, two strokes better than Bell, Michael Jackson and Bob Howe. Fred Silver and Bruce Walters tied for fifth at 230.
Zylstra was the runner-up in the amateurgolf.com Senior Player of the Year race, finishing with 4500 points, a slim 50 points behind winner Jerry Hudgins of Houston.
Zylstra accumulated the points courtesy of victories at the Riverwood Invitational and William Hyndman Memorial and a eight finishes of sixth or better in senior majors.
