PINEHURST, N.C. (Jan 6, 2008) -- First round leaders Abby Bools of Hickory, NC and Drew Weaver of High Point, NC continued their solid play and captured their division titles in the Carolinas Young Amateur hosted by Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, NC.

Bools, a junior at East Carolina, duplicated her first round score of 1-under-par 71 to finish at 2-under-par 142 for the tournamnet.

Playing in a miserable drizzle most of the day, Bools played steady golf all the way around the 5088 yard par 72 Magnolia course recording three birdies, 13 pars and only two bogeys. Finishing in second place at 151 was Emily Street from Forest City, NC.

Weaver, a senior at Virginia Tech who was the 2007 British Amateur champion, continued his precision play scoring a one under par 71 on the 7,088-yard par-72 course. Weaver’s round consisted of seven birdies, the same amount he had in round one, but had six bogeys on Tuesday.

Finishing tied for second six shots back at two under par were Barden Berry of Kinston, NC and Zach Byrd of Calabash, NC.

This tournament was conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association and was open to residents of North and South Carolina who are 18 to 23 year olds and who have finished high school.
