Seascape Collegiate: Old Dominion takes it

KITTY HAWK, NC--The Old Dominion University Monarch golfers rallied from its fifth spot on Monday to win the 29th annual ODU-Seascape Collegiate Golf Tournament Tuesday by seven strokes over second place Campbell. Three Monarchs, which include freshmen Thomas Wilde (Berkshire, England), Neil Henderson(Berwick, Scotland) and junior All-CAA performer Eric Onesi (Bear, DE. ) finished in the top 12 for the Monarchs. In all, six Monarch golfers finished in the top 20. ODU finished the two-round event with a 579 followed by first round leader Campbell at 586.

The Monarchs fired a 289 in the second round which was one of only two teams to shoot under 300 for the day. The other was James Madison who shot 296 to finish third with a 589.

Individually, Tobias Pettersson of Liberty and Jim Bea of St. Joseph's tied for first at 140. Pettersson was awarded the title because Bea was unable to play in the play-off. ODU's Wilde finished at 143, three strokes behind the medalists, while Neil Henderson who shot a 71 today finished At 144, followed by Onesi at 146 for 12th and Matthew Rendell at 147 for 14th. Jeffrey Long (Centreville, Va.) and freshman Steven Loer (Sarasota, Fl.) shot 148 to tie for 20th.

Wilde tied Jamie Lightsey of USC Upstate for par 3 scoring at 2.92 and Henderson was third at 3.00. Wilde was second in the tournament with eight birdies, while Jeffrey Long tied Brendan Barrack of George Washington for the tournament best 26 pars.

This is ODU's first tournament win of the year and the second time in the last four years they have won The ODU-Seascape event. The last was in 2005.
