Marc Goodell, 18, of Roseburg, Ore. (Oak Hills GC) leads the Men's Division with a 1-under par 36-35-71. Four players are tied at even-par 72 including defending champion Ryan Fery of Beaverton, Ore. (Rose City GC) and Philip Prendergast of Vancouver, Wash. (Heron Lakes GC). Prendergast, originally from Kingston, Jamaica, has been a member of Jamaican Amateur Team for the past five years.

Jennifer Jackson of Brookings, Ore. (Salmon Run) leads the women's division with a 15-over-par 44-43-87. Defending champion Courtney Sullivan of Gresham, Ore. (Persimmon) withdrew after having a wisdom tooth pulled.

First established in 1998, the Public Links Championship is the only tournament that does not allow private club members to participate. "The Public Links Championship is representative of every public golfer. It is only open to those members of the Oregon Golf Association who have been bona fide public course players and have not held a membership at any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public," commented OGA Executive Director Jim Gibbons. "With more than half of the OGA membership comprised of avid public golfers and more than 80 percent of all rounds played occurring on public golf courses, this tournament is very representative of public golf," he added.

"This is a great event for the majority of golfers in Oregon and SW Washington," said Gibbons. The 36-hole stroke play competition is open to both Men and Women amateur golfers with USGA handicap indexes of 36.4 or less (for Men) and 40.4 or less (for Women).

In addition to vying for the overall title, participants also are able to compete in a net division. Gibbons added, "Each player's course handicap is used to compute their Net score, so players of all abilities can compete on a level playing field." Net competition leaders include Donald Beaton of Florence, Ore. (Sandpines GL) with a net score of 6-under par and Jennifer Jackson of Brookings, Ore. (Salmon Run) at 1-over par.
