PLEASANTON, Calif. (Oct. 23, 2008) - The NCGA senior amateurs staged an impressive comeback on the final day of the Staedler-Jetter Cup, overcoming a four point deficit to hold on to the trophy for the ninth straight year.

Gary Vanier meant business with an emphatic 8 & 7 win over Glen Stubblefield, offering some retribution after two halved matches yesterday .

The rest of the senior amateur squad then followed suit. Herb Jensen was 3-down after 12 holes against Chris Bitticks and pulled the match back for a win on the 18th hole.

That level of rallying was seen across the golf course with Rob Thompson posting three-under-par on the back nine to square the match against Ric Burgess.

Frank Abbott contributed no defeats and secured a 3 & 2 win over Al Krueger. He was joined by Jim Knoll and Jeff Burda who both posted singles wins and won all their matches during the tournament.

Mark Miller, Tom Lyons, Chris McKenna and Bob Olds also won their matches, giving the NCGA senior amateurs the overall lead in the series 13-4-1. The last senior professional victory came in 1999.
