Northern Cal Master 4-Ball: Hay/Hill win it
LIVERMORE, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2008) – Mark Hill and James Hay clinched a one stroke victory at the NCGA 4-Ball Master Division Championship at Poppy Ridge after final-round 65.
The Diablo Grande’s members 7-under second round in the better-ball format to hold on to their first-round shared lead.
The victors prevailed when Hill staked a wedge to 4-feet on the 18th hole to make birdie and claim the Championship.
This is Hay’s fourth time in the winner’s circle in this event, an event he has virtually owned since its inception five years ago. He partnered with Terry Foreman the first three Championships. This is Hill and Hay’s first time playing together in the Master Division better ball event.
NCGA President Mark House and teammate John Desantis of Corral de Tierra were equally impressive in turning in a two-round 130 total on Poppy Ridge’s Chardonnay and Zinfandel courses. House and Desantis were neck and neck with the Champions, but failed to birdie the last hole. Coming in a close third place were Danny Mahoney of Monterey Bay and teammate Mark Clarke of Pajaro Valley with a 132.
