St. Augustine Am: Final field set
ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida — (Oct 6, 2008) – Bishop Kenny junior Daniel Hanania led St Augustine Amateur local qualifiers yesterday at St Johns Golf Club with a one over par 71 on nines of 37-34. Second time qualifier Tom Murtagh of Ponte Vedra Beach and Matthew Salane of Jacksonville tied for 2nd place with rounds of 73. At 74 were Kazuki Imura and David Thompson who survived the 4 for 2 playoff to take the last two of the five available spots besting Joseph Stewart and Jan Jaro.
These five qualifiers will join the prestigious final field of the 2008 St. Augustine Amateur to be contested Oct 17-19 also at St Johns Golf Club.
Alternate Jan Jaro recently played in the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and is a participant at the Jacksonville First Tee Chapter. Other notable alternates are FAMU standout Doug Smith, and AJGA junior player Nick Torrance.

The St. Augustine Amateur is a national event established in 2004 for better amateurs and collegiate players. Played over three days at stroke play, the field this year is comprised of players from 14 different states. The winner will receive a replica of our trophy designed by Heritage Creations of Glens Falls, NY. Last year’s winner, Danny Evelyn, shot 67-67-71 -- 205.
This year's field will be comprised largely of junior and collegiate players from up and down the east coast, including former New York State Champ Andrew Giulani (son of the former governor) and Zach Sucher, currently ranked No. 2 in the amateurgolf.com - Bridgestone Golf Player Rankings.
ABOUT THE St. Augustine Amateur
54 hole stroke play event for better
amateurs
and collegiate players. The field will be
limited
to 84 players, with no cut. The tournament
is
open to Amateurs only whose entry has been
accepted by the Tournament Committee
however there is an open qualifier several
weeks prior to the event - contact the
Tournament Committee or visit the website
for
details.
Unless prior arrangements are made with
the
approval of the Committee, competitors
must
walk during the competition.
