SPOKANE Wash. (Aug. 31, 2008) – Local golfer Bowdy Ehler, of Spokane, Wash carded the low round of the championship with a 3-under par 69 to force a playoff with first round leader Kyle Crawford of Coos Bay, Ore.

Ehler defeated Crawford on the fourth hole of the playoff to win the 25th Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship. Kate Hildahl of Tualatin, Ore. maintained her lead and won the 11th PNGA Women’s Amateur Public Links.

Both championships were played on the championship layout of Hangman Valley Golf Course in Spokane, Wash.

Ehler and Crawford, both finished at 3-under par 141 to force the playoff.

On the first hole of the playoff both players made birdie on the par-4, #18. The second hole of the playoff they both made pars on the par-4, #1. On the third hole of the playoff they continued to battle hard as they both made birdie on the par-4, #2.

Then, on the fourth hole of the playoff, Crawford lost his ball in the woods and conceded the hole to Ehler, and walked back to the clubhouse. In stroke play, a player may not concede a hole, therefore Ehler finished the hole for a rather odd victory.

In the Senior Division, Kent Brown of Colville, Wash had a successful three-peat, finishing at 4-under par 140, winning by four strokes. Kent holed out for eagle on the par-4 first hole and never looked back.
