(Aug. 27, 2008)--After their opponents John Swigart and Mike Hyland carded a birdie on 18 to apply the pressure on the final day of the Merit Amateur, Chicago's Mike Affeldt finished off a two-putt birdie on the final hole to help him and teammate Erik Ciotti of Addison, IL score a two-day total of 20 points and take a two-point victory.
Defending champions Chris Beto and Eric Burch finished third with a total of 7 points.
The Merit Amateur is a two-man team, 54-hole event using the Stableford format. The first 18 holes each day are better ball, and the final nine each day are aggregate.
In the Senior Division, Dirk Anderson and David Huske came out on top with a two-day total of -5 beating the teams of Gus Kozina-Fred Lukasik and John Seehausen-Merritt Cook by just a total of one point.
