Texas Women's Am: Brown dominates

DALLAS, Texas (Aug. 1, 2008)--Haley Brown, a rising senior at Ohio State, was dominant in an 8 & 7 victory over former Women's Western runner-up Stefanie Page to take home the Texas Women's Amateur.

Brown, who had a career best T-11 finish at college, faced her toughest challenge in the quarterfinals where she squeezed past Natalie Reeves 1-up.

Both finalists were the fifth seeds after shooting 73's in the stroke play portion of the tourney.

ABOUT THE Women's Texas Amateur

This Championship determines the best female amateur player in the state of Texas and provides an avenue for players to earn points for the USGA State Team Championship.

Qualifications: Resident of Texas or Texarkana for the last 6 months prior to the tournament. Individual or Club member of the WTGA. Must have a current USGA Handicap Index.

Format: One day Stroke Play qualifier for Match Play tournament. 32 contestants in the Championship Flight, 16 contestants in all other flights.

Field Size: Low 96 Handicap Index entries.
