Bakersfield City: Baguio wins 3rd in 4 years

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (July 2008)--Trailing Bhavik Patel by a stroke, local golfer Brady Baguio needed something special on the final hole.
When he sprayed his drive into an adjacent fairway, hope for his third Bakersfield City Championship in four years seemed dim. But Baguio wasn't ready to pack it in, and drilled a 255-yard 3-wood to within eight feet of the cup ("absolutely flushed" he called it) and made eagle to finish at 10-under-134. Baguio has won three of the past four city championships, and recently took home the amateurgolf.com San Diego County Championship.
Patel, a high school senior, could only manage par and fell to second place at 135.
Next was D.J. Fernando at 137, followed by Bryan Hogan at 138.
John Balfanz, the defending champ and only four-time winner in the tourney's 29-year history took fifth at 141.
