Fairhaven, MA (June 23, 2008) - As the country's top PGA club professionals gathered for their 41st national championship at Reynolds Plantation in Georgia, the momentum and unmatched success of Titleist across every major equipment category was evident once again. From golf balls to drivers, fairway metals, utility metals, irons, wedges and putters, more players made Titleist their top choice in equipment at the 2008 PGA Professional National Championship than any other.
Not only were more players relying upon Titleist equipment with overwhelming success at the showcase event for PGA club professionals, Scott Hebert was winning with it. The 39-year old head golf professional at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Acme, Michigan, shot a final round 4-under 68 to finish at 12-under 289. Hebert post five birdies over the first seven holes on the final nine of the Great Waters layout to close with a 31 and secure a one shot win.
A Titleist Staff loyalist, Hebert relies upon the Pro V1x golf ball and a full complement of Titleist clubs for his tee-to-green success. He plays the 907D4 driver (9.5), 906F2 3-wood (13), 585.H utility metal (17), AP2 irons (3-P), Vokey Design gap wedge (52), Spin Milled lob wedge (58) and a Scotty Cameron Newport putter.
Fellow Titleist Staff loyalists Ryan Benzel of Bothell, Washington, who tied for runner-up last year, and two-time champion Tim Thelen of College Station, Texas, tied for fourth, five shots back. Benzel’s bag includes the Pro V1x golf ball, 907D2 driver, 906F4 3-wood, 503H 3-iron, a ZB 4-iron and ZM 5-9 irons, Vokey Design pitching and sand wedges, Spin Milled lob wedge and a Scotty Cameron Newport Fastback prototype putter. Thelen plays the Pro V1, 907D2 driver, AP2 irons, Vokey Design gap wedge, Spin Milled sand and lob wedges and a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Studio Select putter.
Hebert will lead a delegation of 20 PGA Professional qualifiers to his home state for the 90th PGA Championship to be contested August 7-10 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township. Among the 20 players who earned invitations, more played Titleist equipment than any other brand.
"This means everything to me, and it's the greatest thing that I've ever won," said Hebert. "To play there [his home state] will be extra special. That atmosphere is going to be incredible and fun to be around."
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the PGA PNC with 181 players, compared to 76 for the nearest competitor. Titleist also swept the driver (151), fairway wood (253), utility metal (110), iron (146), wedge (347) and putter (121) categories.
