MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (March 26, 2008)--Jimmy Burgess and Bob Hammersla shot a final round of 68 for a two day total of 131 to win the SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship at Wachesaw Plantation. Johnny Dennis and Frank Wrenn from Greenville finished second at 134, three shots back.

The winning team started the day with a three shot lead but found themselves only one shot ahead of Dennis and Wrenn after 15 holes. A Hammersla birdie on the 16th put the team two ahead going into the tough par three 17th hole. While standing on the tee waiting to play, the leaders got to watch Johnny Dennis make a short birdie putt to get back within one. However, the long par five 18th proved to be the difference as Dennis and Wrenn bogeyed and Burgess knocked his approach to within inches for the final birdie of the day.

With a final round score of 66, Eric Dollenberg and Tom Humphrey won the First Flight with a final of 137. Joe Padgett and Randy Johnson claimed the Second Flight by five shots with a total score of 141.

The 2008 SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship was played on the par 72 – 6,578 yard Wachesaw Plantation course in Murrells Inlet, S.C. The field consisted of 64 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Four Ball Championship is one of 19 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association

ABOUT THE South Carolina Senior Four-Ball

The SCGA Senior Four Ball Championship began in 1994 as an opportunity for individuals over the age of 55 to have a true partners Championship.

With the emphasis on lower handicapped seniors, the SCGA was allowed more freedom to move the Senior Four Ball across the State and the ability set up more challenging venues for the players looking for stronger competition. Not to cut all players out of the opportunity to win something, the SCGA flights the field after the first round to give everyone a sporting chance for a victory of some kind.
