Rotz wins Cardinal Amateur

GREENBORO, NC (August 16, 2009) -- After firing an amazing 64 in the first round of the Cardinal Amateur, Clayton Rotz kept the red figures going, posting a second round 69 good for a 36-hole total of 133 and an eight stroke lead.
Just one day shy of his 21st birthday, Rotz posted a 75 in the last round, winning the tournament by three strokes at 2-under 208 at the par 70, 7002 Cardinal Country Club.
Rotz is about to enter his Junior year at LSU.
Drew Younts of Stokesdale, NC finished solo second at 1-over 211.

The Cardinal Amateur, presented by McConnell
Golf, is held at the Sedgefield Country Club, Pete
Dye Course in Greensboro, NC. 54-hole stroke
play tournament. Many former competitors are
now on the PGA, Senior PGA and Nationwide
tours. The field consists of 78 contestants,
chosen among college level and mid-amateurs.
Jay Sigel, a winner on the senior tour, has been
quoted as saying that the Cardinal Am is one of
the finest amateur tournaments in the country
and one which he wishes he had won during his
amateur career.
