HAYMARKET, Virginia (July 29, 2009) -- Ted Smith of Wilkinson, IN, won the eleventh annual David King Senior Legends Invitational by one shot with a seven-under total of 209 (67-69-73).  The tournament was hosted by Evergreen CC in Haymarket, Virginia for the tenth straight year.

Smith, ranked third in the current Golfweek national senior rankings, executed a delicate up-and-down on the final hole to edge John Long (Centreville, VA, 71-69-70 - 210) and Bill Zylstra (Plymouth, MN, 70-71-69-210). Zylstra  is second in the national rankings.

Richmond, Virginia's Vinny Giles finished fourth with 211 (71-69-71 -211). Smith entered the final round with a two shot lead over two-time defending champion Jerry Hudgins (Kingwood, TX), four shots over Long and Giles and five over Zylstra.

After a bogey at the first Smith steadied himself with birdies at 3 and 6, turning in one-under 35. Smith's lead was three over Zylstra who turned in 33 and four over Long, who matched Smith's 35, and Hudgins, who double-bogeyed the second hole and turned in 37. Giles shot 38 on the front and fell seven back.  Smith bogeyed 14 and 17 coming in allowing Long and Zylstra an opportunity to catch him.  Zylstra, however, bogied 12 and double-bogeyed the 16th, eliminating his chances.  Long birdied No. 12 and found himself with a 20 footer on the last hole to tie which just missed right. Zylstra birdied 17 and 18 to tie Long. Giles made a run on the back as well with a 33 but fell two short.

In the super senior Division, Stan Fischer of Richmond, VA, won by seven shots with six-under 210 (72-67-71).  Skip Juris (Dublin, OH) was second with 217.  Virginian's Charlie Jurgonis (Fairfax) and George Ownes (Virginia Beach) tied for 3rd with 218.
