Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate: St. John's wins it

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- St. John's (N.Y.) Keegan Bradley and Newberry's Ben Lown each carded a two round total of 138 (-6) to claim co-individual medalist honors Sunday at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 7,102-yard Ironwood Golf & Country Club.

Bradley (72-66=138), who began the day four strokes out of the lead, carded the lowest round of the tournament by shooting six-under-par. Lown (69-69=138) entered the final round just one stroke off the lead and turned in his second consecutive round of three-under to claim a share of the individual medalist title.

Bradley's performance helped St. John's (294-278=572) win the team title by 10 strokes over Newberry (286-296=582). Francis Marion (295-288=583) finished in third place followed by Liberty (290-294=594) in fourth place.

The host East Carolina Pirates (295-290=595) finished in fifth place at nine-over-par. Junior Markus Leandersson (73-69=142) paced the Pirates at two-under to tie for fourth place. Junior Andre Thorsen (72-71=143) finished tied for seventh at one-under.

Playing as an individual freshman Warren Straub (72-72=144) finished tied for 12th at even-par, while senior Anthony Reale (73-72=145) completed the 36-hole tournament at one-over.

The tournament was reduced to a 36-hole event after rain forced play to be cancelled Saturday.
