USC Names Chris Zambri New Men's Golf Coach
LOS ANGELES -- Chris Zambri, a former USC All-Pac-10 performer and longtime Nationwide Tour veteran, has been named USC’s men’s golf head coach, Director of Golf Kurt Schuette announced on Tuesday (July 11).
Zambri, 35, played six years on the Nationwide Tour and was an active teaching professional when he was not competing.
“Chris will bring tremendous passion and zeal as the new head coach,” said Kurt Schuette, USC’s Director of Golf. “He is someone who can immediately help the players. He will help accelerate our objective of developing champions and championships. He has the enthusiasm, experience and the right personality to be a great coach.”
A 1993 USC graduate who played for the Trojans from 1989 to 1993, Zambri played six seasons on the Nationwide Tour between 1997 and 2004. He finished as high as 19th on the circuit’s money list in 1998, posting two second-place finishes that year. He competed in four PGA Tour events as well as the 1995 and 1999 U.S. Opens. As a Trojan, he was a two-time All-Pac-10 second team selection in 1991 and 1993.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Zambri, who inherits the No. 1 recruiting class in the country (Golfweek.com) as well three of Troy’s top six lettermen from last year. “I look forward to not only bringing championships to USC, but to influencing the young people on the team in positive ways on and off the golf course.”
In 2005-2006, the Trojans qualified for postseason action for the 36th season in a row.
Schuette also announced that former Trojan Dave Stockton Jr. will serve as USC’s new volunteer coach. Stockton Jr. and Zambri were teammates for two seasons (1988-90).
Zambri is married to Kim Zambri and they have three children: Wyatt, 8, Joseph, 4, and Laney, 3.
