SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (March 11, 2008)-- Showcasing its skills among the top teams in the nation, Lynn University’s men’s golf team took first place at the 58th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship. Five of the top-10 teams in the nation participated in the event which saw two Fighting Knights finish in the top-three individually.

Micah Burke of Cal State San Bernadino was the medalist.

"I putted real well the entire tournament," said Burke, who accumulated 10 birdies and an eagle over two rounds. "The first day I was really putting well. I took advantage of almost every good putt I had."

Both Scott Aydelotte and Patricio Salem shot career-low 54-hole scores of 209 to tie for second. Salem, playing as an individual, carded a two-over par 72 while Aydelotte fired a 74 in the final round. Devin Kay missed a top-10 finish by one-stroke, closing out the two-day tournament with a 217 to place tied for 12th. Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week Federico Celano tied for 16th overall with a season-best 219 while Jordan Holley recorded the lowest score on the day for the Knights, shooting a 71 in the third round. Marcus Williams shot a 224, respectively.

Ranked 24th in the nation prior to the competition, Lynn showed it has the potential to compete with the top teams. The 861 team total was LU’s lowest score since 2005 when it won the Rollins Invite. Six-strokes back from the Knights was defending champion and third ranked St. Edwards (867) followed by no. 8 Western Washington (872), no. 4 Nova Southeastern (873) and Washburn (877).
