Junior World: Canadian Svensson Wins by 1
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 16, 2010)--16-year-old Adam Svensson of Canada backed up his third-round 66 with a 72 to overtake Jorge Fernandes Valdez of Argentina and win the Callaway Junior World Championship by one stroke.

Fernandes Valdez conquered the brutal layout at Torrey Pines in the first round of the Junior World Championship, posting a 5-under 67. He backed that up with a 71 and then fired a 69 in the third round to claim a three stroke lead over Svensson heading into the final round.

But Svensson eagled the ninth hole to complete a front nine of 32 and take a one-shot lead over Fernandes Valdez heading into the final nine.

It was at that point that both players began to leak oil, with Svensson dropping five shots over the next 8 holes and Fernandes Valdez losing two. This gave Fernandes Valdez a two-shot lead standing on the 72nd tee. But a double-bogey on the final hole gave Svensson an opening, and he seized the moment by making a birdie 4 and taking the title.
