PAWLEYS ISLAND, (Jan. 25, 2008) -- The rain held off, but temperatures in the 40's made for tough scoring conditions at the Tradition Golf Club.
Still, young Caleb Sturgeon managed to shoot the low score of the event with consecutive 69’s. Sturgeon’s two day total of 138 won the 15-year-old first place in the One Day Gross Division.
In the Men’s Club Championship Division, Columbia’s Brent Roof held onto to his first round lead with a second round score of 73 for a two day total of 141.
Bernie Shealy of Columbia took a three shot victory in the Men’s Senior Club Division with an even par score of 144.
Cecelia Barksdale claimed first place among the women with a total of 164.
In the One Day Senior Division Frank Williams took top honors after an under par round of 71 and a two day total of 145.
Steven Swier used a six handicap for a net total of 142 and a one shot victory in the One Day Net Division.
The 2008 Tournament of Champions was conducted over the Tradition Golf Club layout in Pawleys Island, S.C. The field consisted 117 men & women Club and One Day tournament Champions throughout South Carolina. The Tournament of Champions is one of 19 Major Championships that the South Carolina Golf Association conducts through the year.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Tournament of Champions
With the first event held in January of 1997, The
Tournament of Champions was created to honor the
Champions of the SCGA Member Club events and
the
SCGA One Day Tournaments throughout the year
prior.
Participants compete against one another in flights
based on how they qualified. Flights are broken up
as Men's Club Champions, Men's Senior Club
Champions, SCGA One Day Gross winners, SCGA
One Day Net winner, SCGA One Day Senior winners
and a Women's Division that includes both Women's
Club Champions and WSCGA One Day winners.
Each
flight plays from a predetermined set of tees and
competes only against other players in their
respective flight.
From the first event of 42 players, the Tournament
of
Champions now reaches capacity and has become of
one of the highlights for many players throughout
the year.
