Hyde and Pocknall Claim Texas South Four-Ball
South Four-Ball Champions
Trevor Hyde and David Pocknall
HOUSTON, TX. (Feb. 28, 2011) -- The wind picked up for the final round and the scores reflected it at the South Four-Ball Championship at Pine Forest Country Club in Houston. After 36 holes, four teams stood atop the leaderboard with a two-day total of 8-under par 136. A short-lived playoff concluded the championship with Trevor Hyde and David Pocknall carding a birdie on the first hole of the playoff.
Playing in the final pairing, Kerrville’s Trevor Hyde and Katy’s David Pocknall sat one shot off the lead of father/son duo Robert and Trent Booher. Finishing their final round with a 1-under par 71 and a two-day total of 8-under par 136, Hyde and Pocknall joined the teams of Owen Joyner and Jeff New, Howard Herring and William Ezell, and Scott Kelly and Chris Ward at the top of the leaderboard.
With all four teams playing the par 5, 1st hole in the playoff, Hyde and Pocknall quickly established their desire to walk away victorious by putting their third shots to within five feet of the hole. Pocknall proceeded to make the birdie putt for victory and redemption for the 2010 South Four-Ball Championship. It was in a playoff with Giles Kibbe and Chris Davis last year that Hyde and Pocknall finished runner-ups.
