New Year's Invitational: McKenney leads early
University of Florida photo
ST. PETERSBURT, Fla. (Jan. 8, 2009) -- University of Florida's Tim McKenney, a decorated junior golfer from Scottsdale, fired a 6-under-66 at the New Years Invitational to take the first-round lead at the St. Petersburg Country Club.
McKenney, who was a three-time AJGA Rolex All-American, 2004 FCWT Player of the Year and advanced to the quarterfinals at both the 2004 and 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur Championships is still within striking distance of a slew of golfers.
Mike Barbosa, John Joseph and Peter Uihlein all carded 68's, while Tommy Parker and Jake Shepherd checked in at 69.
In all, 21 golfers were at or below par on Thursday.
Play continues Friday, with the final round of the 72-hole event on Sunday.

Club.
