Finally getting a chance to play!

MONTEREY, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2008) -- It's no secret that amateurgolf.com is enamored with the Monterey Bay area, seeing as we hold nearly half our events in this golf mecca. So when the opportunity came to give back to the community, AGC was more than willing to take the plunge into our first benefit tournament, which went to help the Parks Foundation of Monterey County, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth, cultural, and environmental programs in Monterey County Parks -- including special needs and at-risk youth groups.

Played at the beautiful Pasadera Country Club, the format included two divisions: The traditional scramble from the white tees (without too many bells and whistles); plus a one best-ball gross and one best-ball net format from the blue tees for those who enjoy playing their own ball. There was also an optional individual skins game for the second division.

Taking first in the Scramble Division, with an impressive score of 57, was the team of 1st place Scramble Division - Score of 57 John Pinio, Jim Colangelo, Tony Mitre and Kurtis Weeks.

Jim Colangelo notched his first ace on the 120-yard sixth hole, using a sand wedge.

"The nice thing was I got to enjoy it, it bounced about ten feet left of the hole, hopped twice and rolled in," said Colangelo, who was two holes too early with his shot as Ocean Honda was giving away a Honda CRV for aces on the 8th hole.

"You take what you can get," said Colangelo. "I got a few passes to Poppy Hills, so that was nice." In the Championship Division (One Net and One Gross Ball) the team of Bob Schreiner, Anthonly Valdez, Kurt Dillard and Larry Bohn prevaled with a score of 134. The following golfers collected with skins in the optional skins game.
