Washington State Four-Ball: Remington's take victory
DUPONT, Wash. (May 30, 2008)--Matthew and Brian Remington of Seattle, Wash. captured the 2008 WSGA Men’s Best-Ball Championship in dramatic fashion today as Brian drained a 40-foot putt on the 18th green to avoid a four team playoff at the 52nd Washington State Men’s Best-Ball Amateur Championship, hosted by The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.

Three teams made a strong run to finish tied at 11-under par 133, eagerly waiting to see the outcome of the Remington team. One of those teams was the two-time champions (2006 and 2007), Alex Stamey of Mill Creek, Wash., and Tom Brandes of Bellevue, Wash. Stamey and Brandes were looking to be the first team in WSGA Men’s Best-Ball history to three-peat.

In the Senior Division, Dean May of Kent, Wash., and Jim Wilson of Rochester, Wash., maintained their one stroke lead and won the Senior Division. They finished the championship at 12-under par 132.

The Men’s Best-Ball was contested over 36-holes of play with gross and net prizes in the Amateur and Senior Amateur Divisions. The two player teams played four-ball stroke play each day. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners, each playing their own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole.

The WSGA Men’s Best-Ball was the first championship held at the Pacific Northwest and Washington State Golf Association’s recently purchased golf course, The Home Course.

It is one of five association tournaments that The Home Course is hosting in 2008. These championships and/or qualifiers include the PNGA Men’s Master-40 Amateur, USGA Mid-Amateur Sectional Qualifying, USGA Senior Women’s Sectional Qualifying, and USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Sectional Qualifying.

The Home Course is also playing host for the Tacoma City Amateur, PGA Section tournaments, and Washington Junior Golf Association tournaments.
