Liebler Breaks Through at Carolinas Mid-Amateur
GREENVILLE, SC (April 18, 2010)--After 20 years of trying, Steve Liebler from Irmo, SC finally captured his first Carolinas Golf Association individual championship. Steve, a former regular PGA tour professional, birdied his final hole to nip the ageless anomaly, Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC by a single stroke.

Liebler stated, “I am so proud to finally win, especially against such a strong field.” Scores for the first two days may have suggested otherwise but when the wind finally died for the final round the fireworks started.

Scott Harvey from Greensboro started the charge with an incredible 30 on the front nine. His six birdie effort put him in the lead after nine holes. A bogey 5 on the tenth cooled him off and 7 pars later he stood on the 18th tee with a legitimate shot at the trophy. An errant drive forced a pitchout and a 3-putt finish placed him in solo third.

Uly Grisette, the leader after 36 skied to a 79 and had to settle for 9th. The day was no better for defending champion Jarrett Grime as his 75 placed him in a tie for 10th. This makes the fourth year in a row the Mid-Amateur Championship has been won by A South Carolinian.
