Betchan wins Oklahoma Mid-Am
STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Jay Betchan was declared winner of The Oklahoma Mid-Amateur Championship, when the final round was washed out due to torrential rains in Stillwater.
Little did the 39-year-old Betchan know that his birdie at No. 18 on Monday for 68 would make the difference, as he edged out two players who fired first round 69's. Perhaps winning this event, albeit a rain-shortened one, makes up for his second place finish in early August at the Wheat Capital Championship, where he lost be a single shot despite firing a final round 65.
Hopefully, players from around the country who visit Oklahoma August 24-30 for the US Amateur at Southern Hills will experience better weather.
