Gasparilla Invitational: Dachisen Wins 4th in Last 7 Years
Host of the Gasparilla Invitational
Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) Tournament Director Peter Dachisen and Florida Junior Tour (FJT) member George (Doug) Letson went head-to-head in the final round with Dachisen coming out on top at the 54th Annual Gasparilla Invitational at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Florida.
18 year old Letson, the current Florida Junior Tour Points leader, began the final round tied with Dachisen at 146 and one-stroke back of leader John Gabler. Letson made several birdies on the front nine and jumped into the lead with a three-under par 32. Dachisen struggled on the front nine and made the turn with a one-over par 36, four strokes behind Letson.
On the tenth tee Peter, told himself he needed to shoot a four-under par 31 to have a chance to win. He then went on an amazing run, making birdies on 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, and 18. With an incredible par save on 12 and a bogey on 17 Peter finished with a 5-under par 30 on the back nine for a 66 on the day.
Letson, a member at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, played very well, shooting a one-under par 69, but wasn’t able to keep up with Peter’s eight birdies on the day. Letson also demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship by calling a one-stoke penalty on himself when his ball moved slightly after address on the tenth hole. He has committed to attend Florida State University next year.
This is Peter’s fourth Gasparilla title in the last seven years.
