Florida Junior Tour Santa Lucia: Final Results

TAMPA, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2007)-- Joseph Byun went wire-to-wire to win the boys 16-18 age division as Erica Popson captured the girls 16-18 age division title in the Florida Junior Tour (FJT) event at Santa Lucia River Club in Port St. Lucie presented by Treasure Coast Sports Commission.

At Bluewater Bay Resort in Niceville, Blayne Barber claimed the boys 16-18 age division, MJ Maguire won the boys 13-15 age division and Ana Garcia secured the girls 13-18 age division.

At Santa Lucia, Joseph Byun, 17, from Lake Mary, topped the boys 16-18 age division posting the only under par rounds of the tournament. In the first round, Byun recorded a 2-under par 70 to lead the field by two strokes. After making the turn at 1-over, Byun made four birdies, including holes 17 and 18, to fire a final round 3-under par 69 for his first FJT win. Earlier this season, Byun finished in second place at the Summerfield Crossings event. Taylor Szyndlar, 17, from Jupiter, took second place for the second time this season with a pair of 72’s. Nick Buccina, 17, of Tarpon Springs, posted a 76 in the first round and moved ahead into third place with a final round 72 to finish at 148. Erica Popson, 16, from Davenport , claimed the girls 16-18 age division by four strokes recording a 152 total. Popson shot a 78 in the first round to sit one stroke back from the leader. In the final round, Popson fired a 74, the low round of the division, to jump in front and win her third career FJT title. Popson has two wins from previous seasons. Madison Pressel, 16, from Boca Raton, and Paula Reto, 17, of Coral Springs, shared second place each shooting similar rounds of 80-76—156.

Playing at Bluewater Bay , 2006 Boys Junior Champion Blayne Barber captured his third career FJT title shooting a 3-under par 142. Barber, 17, of Lake City , shot a 73 in the first round and jumped in front of the boys 16-18 age division after firing a final round 69. With two wins last season, Barber earned the FJT Points Champion for the division. MJ Maguire, 15, of St. Augustine, took second place with rounds of 69-77—146 as Zachary Primavera, 17, from Lynn Haven, placed third carding a 78-70—148. In the boys 13-15 age division, Jack Maguire, 13, of St. Augustine , fired a final round even par to win by seven strokes. Combined with a first round 76, Maguire finished at 148 for the top spot in the division. Chris Ingham, 14, of Pinecrest, shot a 74-81—155 for second place while Brett Ochsenreiter, 15, of Destin, and Brandon Jowers, 15, of Shalimar, tied for third place with a 156 total. Ana Garcia, 18, from Niceville, secured the win in the girls 13-18 age division posting 81 for the two rounds. Kristine Odaiyar, from Bradenton , finished one stroke back from Garcia for second place shooting a 79-84—163.
