PNGA Senior Women's Amateur: Carr leads it

SPOKANE, Wash. (Oct. 8, 2007)-- Defending champion, Anne Carr of Renton, Wash. set the early pace today by carding an opening round of 2-under-par 70 at the 22nd PNGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship, being played at Manito G&CC in Spokane, Washington.

Carr leads the field of 89 players by two strokes. Carr put together six birdies in her opening round today. Carr is arguably one of the best senior women amateurs in the state of Washington and in the Northwest.

Carr was runner-up in the 2001 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship and is a two-time winner of the PNGA Senior Women Player of the Year Award.

Carr's nearest competitor is Ann Swanson of Woodinville, Wash., who carded an even par 72. Swanson won the PNGA Senior Amateur is 2000 and is a recent inductee into PNGA Hall of Fame.

Other notables include 6-time champion, Joan Edwards-Powell of Portland, Ore. and 2004 champion, Rachel Whittington of Lake Oswego, Ore. They both carded a 2-over-par 74's, trailing four strokes from the leader.

The PNGA Senior Women's Amateur is flighted by age: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+. The field is filled by exemptions first, and then by date of receipt of entry. Players must be members of PNGA member clubs.
