Stocker Cup Qualifier: Two more join the field
STEVINSON, Calif. (Sept. 28)— When Harold Chuhlantseff’s approach shot on the 18th hole bounced over the green and into the tall stuff, eventually leading to a triple-bogey, he thought his shot at qualifying for the Stocker Cup had been yanked away after shooting even-par through the first 17 holes. He resigned himself to missing his chance and left the course to attend to his work as a Fresno-area high school football coach leading his team under the Friday night lights.
But the difficult Stevinson Ranch Golf Course proved to be too much for the rest of the field to handle, and Chuhlantseff’s 76 held up as he learned after receiving a phone call from amateurgolf.com founder Pete Wlodkowski before he took the field.
Chuhlantseff will be joined by Brian Swenson of Dublin, Calif., who also carded a 76.
The first alternate will be Mark Mance, who is a member of The Preserve Golf Club in Carmel, the site of the Stocker Cup, which will be held Oct. 11-14.
