MOSEL, Wis.— The United States dominated the final round singles matches of a competition that had been tied at the end of the previous three rounds to win the Palmer Cup presented by Monster at Whistling Straits The Irish. The Americans claimed the first six of the afternoon’s eight matches to defeat the Europeans 14-10. The victory was Team USA’s first since 2002 and moves the all-time series to 5-3-1.
The U.S. got off to a quick start when Matt Every birdied five of his first 10 holes and lead by as many as four holes before cruising to a 2 and 1 victory over Scott Jamieson. John Holmes claimed the second match for the Americans after winning the first hole and leading Alex Norén the entire match for a 3 and 2 win. Michael Putnam continued the winning streak by beating David Skinns, 3 and 1.
Team USA’s victory became official when Roberto Castro parred No. 15 to defeat Steve Tiley 4 and 3 with Jeff Overton dormie four over Pablo Martin to ensure the 12.5 points needed for victory. Overton would go one for a 4 and 3 win. Ryan Blaum won the United States’ final match, 3 and 2, against Rhys Davies.
Team Europe would claim the Palmer Cup’s final two matches with pair of 1-up victories. Kalle Edberg rallied from a two-hole deficit to defeat Matthew Rosenfeld while Alejandro Cañizares outlasted Spencer Levin in a match in which neither player led by more than one hole.

Each team will be comprised of 12 men's and

women's golfers.
Day one will feature Mixed Four-Ball
competition, day
two will see Mixed
Foursomes in the morning and Four-Ball in the
afternoon, with 24 singles
matches on the final day.
