Colt Knost was on the bubble early in the selection process, taking top ten finishes in the the Northeast Amateur and Jones Cup and a final 16 appearance, then forced the committee’s hand by winning the USGA Amateur Public Links Championship. He mentioned after that tournament that he hoped the victory would put him over the top, and indeed it did.
Knost made the decision look prescient when he took the U.S. Amateur title at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, becoming the second golfer ever to win both events in the same year, after Ryan Moore accomplished the feat in 2004.
Knost, a graduate of Southern Methodist University, is currently ranked first in Texas according to the amateurgolf.com-Bridgestone Golf Player Rankings and fifth nationally.
