Turner leads Florida Mid-Am Stroke Play with one round to go

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 13, 2018) – Scott Turner has the lead after two rounds at the Florida Mid-Amateur as the only player to post back-to-back rounds under 70. Turner is 7 under at Seagate Country Club after rounds of 69-68.
Turner, who lives in Stuart, Fla., had his best FSGA finish earlier this summer at the Amateur Public Links, where he was T-4. It was his only top-5 finish of the year. Turner also came in T-26 at the Florida Amateur. He won the 2017 Florida Amateur Public Links.
At Seagate, Turner has had only two bogeys – one each day. That has been crucial in helping him stay ahead of Brian Keenan, the Tampa, Fla., resident who is in second at 3 under.
Kevin Johnson and Matthew Marino are tied for third at 2 under.
Gary Nicklaus, the son of Jack Nicklaus and a U.S. Amateur qualifier this year, is part of a tie for fifth at 1 under. Nicklaus opened with 74 but climbed the leaderboard with a second-round 69.
Joe Alfieri – a reinstated amateur who has won the Florida State Match Play, Mid-Amateur and Four-Ball championships – is tied for seventh with Ken Kinkopf. Both players are at even par and both had back-to-back rounds of 72.
The 36-hole cut fell Saturday at 13 over.

An estimated 300+ mid-amateurs (25 years of age
and older) will attempt to qualify for this premier
championship with a Championship field of 84 players.
Format is 36 holes of stroke play with the low 32
scores advancing to match play.
