ABACOA, Fla. (July 22, 2007)-- Chappell Brown of West Palm Beach shot a second-round 65 and a two-day total of 138 to win the 32nd annual Palm Beach Kennel Club County Amateur Championship at Abacoa Golf Club.

For the third day in a row, rain and the threat of lightning interrupted play. When it became too late in the day to finish the third round, the competition was ended and Brown was presented the title based on his 36-hole scores.

At 138 he finished with a two-stroke margin over first-round leader Rick Othmer, who posted 67-73-140.

“I would like to have finished but the holes we did play this afternoon, I played really well and was still ahead,” Brown noted. “That makes me feel like I really won, that it wasn’t given to me."

Brown showed he wouldn’t back off early Sunday afternoon when he holed a 100-yard sand wedge for eagle at the par-4 third hole. He added birdies at the fifth and sixth holes and made the turn in 32, 10-under for 45 holes.

Danny Evelyn of Wellington, Brown’s former teammate at Cardinal Newman High School, had moved into second at eight under with 31, followed by Bradley Ball of Tequesta at five under and Othmer at minus-4. All four were on the green in regulation at the par-5 10th hole.
