Purdue, Michigan State Co-Champs at Big 10 Match Play

PALM COAST, FL (February 10, 2018) - The Michigan State Spartans and the Purdue Boilermakers tied their match play final 3-3, and the teams shared the Big Ten Match Play Championship title at the Hammock Beach Resort Ocean Course.

For Michigan State, it was their second match play win in three years, having won in 2016. For Purdue, it was the first Big 10 win of any kind since 1981.

The field was divided into East and West divisions, with each team playing three matches and earning points for match wins. At the end of three matches (the third match was shortened to 9 holes due to morning fog on the Ocean Course), Michigan State and Purdue had the best records and earned their way into the title match.

In the third place match, Wisconsin defeated Penn State. Indiana knocked out Illinois in the fifth-place match, while Ohio State earned a victory over Minnesota to finish seventh.

In other matches Iowa beat Maryland to finish 9th, with Northwestern over Rutgers in the 11th-place match and Nebraska over Michigan in the 13th-place match.
