Roberts Outlasts Poor Weather, Wins S.C. TOC in Playoff

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (January 28, 2018) - Once again, weather played a factor in the 22nd playing of the South Carolina Tournament of Champions. The field battled on and off rain all day but was able to get in all 18-holes of the final round at The Tradition Club.

At the end of regulation, Kevin Roberts found himself tied at the top of the Club Champion Division with first round leader Robert Lutomski. Roberts took home the championship after the first hole of a sudden death playoff.In the Senior Club Champion division, Jim Wise held onto his first round lead after a second round of one over par 73 and a three shot victory.

Doug Ramey came from one shot behind to take home the One Day Gross Division after a final round of 71.

In the Senior One Day division, Eddie Hargett shot a final round of four under 68 to take home the title by four shots.

Sydney Roberts continued her steady play to take home the Women’s Division.

The thirteen year old carded another round of 78 for a convincing ten shot victory. Ryan Petz carded a second round of net 72 to secure the Net Division Title.

ABOUT THE South Carolina Tournament of Champions

With the first event held in January of 1997, The Tournament of Champions was created to honor the Champions of the SCGA Member Club events and the SCGA One Day Tournaments throughout the year prior.

Participants compete against one another in flights based on how they qualified. Flights are broken up as Men's Club Champions, Men's Senior Club Champions, SCGA One Day Gross winners, SCGA One Day Net winner, SCGA One Day Senior winners and a Women's Division that includes both Women's Club Champions and WSCGA One Day winners. Each flight plays from a predetermined set of tees and competes only against other players in their respective flight.

From the first event of 42 players, the Tournament of Champions now reaches capacity and has become of one of the highlights for many players throughout the year.
