BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (January 15, 2018) - Chris Crisologo kept the good times rolling in the third round of the South American Amateur at Martindale Country Club.

After taking the lead with an 8-under 64 Crisologo extended his lead on Monday with a 6-under 66 to open up a commanding seven-stroke lead with one round remaining.

In the third round Crisologo, a senior at Simon Fraser University, was nearly as good as he was the day before rolling in six birdies while bogeying just once. The best stretch of for Crisologo on Monday Nos. 4 and 11 when he birdied five-times and bogeyed one to play the stretch in 4-under.

During his career at Simon Fraser University Crisologo has won five-times and has been named to an All-American team each the last three years, most recently in 2017 he was a first-teamer.

Interestingly, Simon Fraser University was the fist Canadian college accepted into the NCAA after being welcomed as a full member in 2012. A member of the Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference, Simon Fraser University began the transition to NCAA in 2009.

Charlie Hillier of Kansas moved into a share of second place at 7-under with 5-under 67 that was comprised of eight birdies and three bogeys. Hillier's final three birdies came on Nos. 16, 17 and 18.

Tied with Hillier for second is Pedro Lencart Silva, a native of Portugal, who signed for 4-under 68.

Three others are one shot further back in a tie for fourth at 6-under. The group includes Ecuador's Rafael Miranda, Alex Gleeson of Ireland and Argentina's Horacio Carbonetti.

Defending U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Matt Parziale and 2015 South American Amateur winner Scott Harvey are both 3-under and in a tie for 13th they share the American lead.

ROUND TWO RECAP

The second round of the South American Amateur hosted by Martindale Country Club was a day full of movement. However, few made a bigger move on Sunday than Simon Fraser University senior Chris Crisologo who moved up 25 spots and into the lead with two rounds remaining.

Following a first round level-par 72 Crisologo began the round five off the pace but that didn't last long. Crisologo birdied twice on the front nine to move into red figures and turn in a tidy 2-under 34 before really making his move on the second nine. Beginning with a birdie on No. 10 Crisologo rattled off four consecutive birdies to jump to 6-under and then after birdies on each of the last two holes the Richmond, British Columbia native was able to sign for a flawless 8-under 64 that left him two clear of Rafael Miranda.

Overall on the back nine Crisologo rolled in six birdies to card a 6-under 30.

Rafael Miranda, from Ecuador, took over second place with a 4-under 68 in the second round. 6-under for the tournament Miranda birdied eight-times and bogeyed three-times in the round.

Behind Miranda are a trio of players in a tie for third at 4-under. The group includes Alex Gleeson of Ireland, Argentina's Horacio Carbonetti and Oklahoma Sooners Aaron Terrazas.

Defending U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Matt Parziale is the lead American at 3-under in a tie for sixth.

2015 South American Amateur winner Scott Harvey struggled and fell to even-par and in a tie for 21st.

First round leader co-leader, Florida senior, Alejandro Tosti dropped to 2-under good for a tie for 11th while Calum Fyme of Scotland dropped all the way to 1-over and tied 27th.

ROUND ONE RECAP

With 24 players in red figures after day one of the South American Amateur it is Alejandro Tosti and Calum Fyme leading the way at 5-under with still three rounds remaining at Martindale Country Club.

Tosti, a senior at Florida, moved to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday thanks to a long stretch of brilliant golf from the 2nd until the 14th hole. During the flawless 13-hole stretch Tosti birdied eight-times with his longest run of birdies coming on Nos. 2-5 when he carded a birdie on four consecutive holes. What made the run even more impressive was that it came following a bogey on the opening hole, the first of his three during the round.

One of the best players in the SEC, Tosti came to Florida from Rosario, Argentina and since joining the Gators he has been nothing short of spectacular winning twice, including last year at the SEC Championship and the Carpet Capital Collegiate.

Tosti was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Calum Fyfe of Scotland. On Saturday Fyfe did most of his work on the front nine before holding on during the second nine. Fyfe, the medalist at the 2017 Scottish Amateur Championship, jump started his round with a birdie on No. 1 and then added circles on the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 9th holes to turn in 5-under 31.

Unfortunately, Fyfe couldn't keep the good times rolling on the back nine using birdies on the 11th and 18th holes to offset bogeys on Nos. 10 and 13.

Behind the lead duo is a group of five players at 4-under in a tie for third and one off the pace. Among those just off the lead is 2015 champion Scott Harvey. Looking to build off a 2017 season that him finish as the No. 3 mid-amateur in the AmateurGolf.com Rankings, Harvey birdied the 5th and 8th holes to turn in 2-under only to drop to 1-under following his lone bogey on the 10th hole. As usual Harvey was unfazed and he continued his climb into contention with three birdies between Nos. 14 and 17.

Reigning U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Matt Parziale was one of the 24 players to break par in the first round and he is tied for 17th after a 1-under 71. Parziale was able to shake off a 4th hole bogey with tweeters on the ensuing hole and also the 12th.
