DIAMONDHEAD, MS (December 3, 2017) - Amateur Jackson Wedgeworth struggled to a final round 1-over 73 but he was still able to finish 4-under and win the Silver Slipper Coast Open by three-strokes over professional Landon Lyons and amateur Isiah Jackson.

Wedgeworth, a sophomore at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, set the stage for his final day with a win an opening round 5-under 67 on Saturday at Diamondhead Country Club. The round included seven birdies and just two bogeys. Wedgeworth was level-par after the opening nine holes before playing a flawless second nine with five birdies.

During the final round Wedgeworth rolled in the winning birdie on the penultimate hole as he overcame a triple-bogey on the par-4 11th and three other bogeys throughout the round. In addition to the late birdie Wedgeworth also penciled in circles on Nos. 5, 8, 10 and 12.

Following his final season at Mississippi Golf Coast Wedgeworth will continue his playing career at North Alabama beginning in the fall of 2018.

Runner-up finishers Lyons and Jackson both finished 1-under, Reed Hughes Sr. was fourth at 1-over while amateur Casey Ham was 2-over in fifth.

In all a total of eight amateurs finished inside the top-10 with three amateurs taking top-five finishes.

36-hole stroke play event open to professionals and amateurs. Divisions are as follows: Professional, Regular (49 and younger), Senior (50-59), Super Senior (60-69), and Grand Masters (70 and older).
