Garrett Barber, Lucy Li hold 36-hole AJGA Rolex TOC Leads

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (November 21, 2017) - Lucy Li carded a 10-under-par 62 on Tuesday at PGA National Resort & Spa on the Champion Course to take control of the Girls Division after the second round. Garrett Barber retained his Boys Division lead with a 2-under-par 70 on the Fazio Course to reach 7-under-par 136 after two rounds.

The 40th edition of the Rolex Tournament of Champions features 144 of the best junior golfers in the world from 24 states and eight countries. The tournament assembles the Rolex Junior All-Americans with the past year’s champions and members of the Transamerica Scholastic Junior All-America Team to create The Greatest Week in Junior Golf.

Past winners of the Rolex Tournament of Champions include Phil Mickelson, David Duval, Charles Howell, David Gossett, Webb Simpson, Sam Burns, Heather Farr, Kellee Booth, Inbee Park, Morgan Pressel and Alison Lee.

Li, a sophomore from Redwood Shores, California, started on the back side and fired five straight birdies on Nos. 11-15 to distance herself from the field. Li capped her day with three birdies on her front side and a chip-in birdie on the par-4 ninth hole to reach 11-under-par 133 for the tournament. The 15-year-old is looking for her third AJGA Invitational win of 2017 and leads by eight strokes with 36 holes to play.

After a 5-under-par 66 in the first round on the Champion Course, Barber, a senior from Stuart, Florida, carded a 2-under-par 70 on the Fazio Course. With four more birdies on Tuesday, Barber extended his tally to 10 over the two days. The Louisiana State University signee holds a one-stroke lead entering the third round.

Ricky Castillo of Yorba Linda, California, made a charge with a 7-under-par 65, including an eagle on No. 12. He sits solo second at 6-under-par 137, one stroke off the lead. James Song of Rancho Santa Fe, California, shot a 6-under-par 66 to earn solo third after 36 holes at 5-under-par 138.

Brianna Navarrosa of San Diego sits second in the Girls Division at 3-under-par 141, one stroke ahead of a three-way tie for third between Kynadie Adams of Gallatin, Tennessee; Bohyun Park of (South Korea) Farmers Branch, Texas; and Elizabeth Wang of San Marino, California.

Third-round tee times will run on Wednesday, November 22, on the Champion and Fazio Courses from 7:30 to 9:20 a.m.
